Drempels Screen Saver - a psychedelic celebration on your desktop

Website - FreeWare

Jimi, a friend of mine recommended that I try this program. I'm not sure how to describe what happens after you run Drempels in desktop mode. Maybe I could say it's like a slow explosion of color and motion. If you are old enough to reminisce about the psychedelic 60's then this program will certain bring back memories.

Dremels is a small download and comes with an installer. Once installed you are sent directly to the setup screen where you can choose many different options. To run it as your desktop wallpaper, you just go to the start menu and find the program or you can use the shortcuts it placed on the desktop. You can choose to have it run on Windows startup if you really like the desktop mode. It also will become your default screensaver unless you choose to change it. During the uninstall it removed itself very well.

Quote from JimiPocius - no spyware or ads, just cool visuals.. I'm on a one man crusade to turn the world onto the world's coolest desktop

Quote from the website - Drempels makes colorful, swirling, hallucinogenic patterns that resemble a hurricane or tornado. It normally runs in your Windows background or "desktop", replacing your old still-image wallpaper with gently-animating visuals... and meanwhile, you can use your computer just like you normally would. It uses very little CPU overhead - so little that it even runs smoothly on a 233 MHz system!

Drempels can also be used as a screensaver; in this mode, it goes fullscreen (like a normal screensaver) instead of rendering to the desktop/background.

Drempels works on Windows 9x, ME, NT, and 2000. It requires DirectX 5.0 or later and an MMX-capable processor.

9/19/05: Jimi wrote to tell me that he had made some custom textures for Drempels.

... tell the folks, they can get some cool "textures" for drempels at this link: ( http://philandrews.com/jp/drempelstextures.zip ). many were made by yours truly ... i use FractKal and Irfanview to generate most...

all ya have to do is unzip them to c:\program files\drempels, that's it! any size pic will work, but it prefers 256x256 pixels...

Thanks Jimi, I didn't mention above that Drempels uses JPG pictures as a starting point for the weird effects it creates. This allows you to create your own "textures".
