Viewing file extensions and changing file associations

Website - Tip

tips from FileInfo.net

Notes from Clif

A few weeks ago, I wrote the webmaster of FileInfo.net and made a suggestion that they add a few tips on viewing file extensions. Many new users to Windows still don't know what they are because Windows does not display them by default. I extend my thanks to the webmaster for creating these pages.

What is a file extension?

How to show file extensions.

How to change file associations.

One of the most frequently asked questions in help forums is how to change a file association. Once you understand file extensions, you will better understand how file associations work.

Letter from FileInfo.net

Thanks for your patience as I've been working on a few updates to the FileInfo.net website. As you requested, I added a new Help page with instructions about how to show file extensions in Windows. I've also added a page about changing Windows file associations and plan on adding a few more Windows file-related help topics in the near future.

Thanks for the suggestion and for adding a link to FileInfo.net in your newsletter!
