I read that this add-on for Internet Explorer adds the scripting features that GreaseMonkey gives me in Firefox. I tried a few of the scripts but I can't say I'm very impressed. However, there are loads of other cool features already built into IE7Pro that you might find priceless.

I saw this social networking service and decided it might be for me. I can't say much favorable or unfavorable about it yet. I can tell you that the software applet that they ask you to run seems to work just fine, and it's free. Read below to find out more about this new and novel service.

Wakoopa is a social network for software users. You download a little tracker on your PC or Mac, and every 15 minutes this updates your Wakoopa profile with a list of what software you’ve been using. This profile then enables you to add or invite friends and get updated about what they’re using, but also get updates about your software. Reviews that others have written or new versions of your software: it’s all on your dashboard. Even if you’re not a member of Wakoopa you’ll still be able to check out the coolest software. Since we apply the wisdom of crowds principle to software, you’ll be able to see exactly what’s popular and what’s the right tool for the job. Just browse the database by tags or categories, it’s all there! If you like software, then you’ll love Wakoopa.
db4 Font Viewer is a small stand-alone utility for helping you to view and manage your hundreds of installed Windows fonts. I tried this the other day and I was surprised to see the amount and variety of fonts that I have on my PC.
It's simple to use and it doesn't need to be installed. Just unzip it and run it.

dp4 Font Viewer is a standalone font viewer that enables you to browse all installed system fonts. You can preview the fonts by ASCII character range, type your own sample text or load a text file to preview how the selected font is rendered. In addition, you can preview fonts from any given folder without having to install them ...
Sometimes the built in font viewer in Windows is good enough for what you need. It also lets you copy the characters into a small buffer. To use it, just choose "Start" "Run" and type in "charmap" then press enter.
I tried out this program and it's great. I think everyone with any sense of humor could soon be using this to make their own comics from family photos. There is one problem though. This program will only be free for beta testers. That means you'd better grab a copy now if you want to try it for free. Details are below.

The author of ZippyLock wrote in with this little review of his software. If you read through the review and you think it sounds good, give it a try and comment below to tell us about your experience with it.
Ergun Çoruh wrote the following:
IS IT FREEWARE? - Yes.
WHERE IS THE WEBSITE AT? - www.zippyplace.com
IS THE DOWNLOAD LINK EASY TO FIND? - Yes there's a download link on the home page.
WHAT KIND OF PROGRAM IS IT? - ZippyLock is a small and extremely easy to use password manager with unique anti-key-
logger, Triple-DES encryption, Google-like smart search box, inactivity lock, CAPTCHA and login delay against
dictionary attacks.
WHAT VERSIONS OF WINDOWS ARE REQUIRED? - Windows/2000/XP/Vista
DOES IT REQUIRE ANYTHING ELSE? (LIKE .NET) - Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 (Vista comes with .NET 2.0)
IS IT A LARGE OR SMALL DOWNLOAD? - Small @ 544KB.
IS IT AN EASY PROGRAM TO INSTALL? - Yes. It is just one msi file.
DOES IT COME WITH AN UNINSTALLER? - No. It can be removed from Control Panel/Add Remove Programs.
WHERE DID YOU FIND IT? - I wrote it.
WERE YOU LOOKING FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS? - Yes. I wrote ZippyLock for my own use because I don't trust browser's
auto-fill (see my FAQ on why).
WHAT ARE YOU USING IT FOR? - To enter passwords and other sensitive information on Internet based forms without
typing.
WHAT WERE YOU USING BEFORE YOU FOUND THIS? - I was just entering passwords directly on forms using the keyboard like everyone else.
HAS IT SOLVED A PROBLEM YOU WERE HAVING? - Yes. Its security is second to none. No other password manager comes with anti-keylogger and CAPTCHA protection. I am confident that ZippyLock is the best one in terms of security and ease of use.
WHAT PROBLEMS HAS IT CAUSED? - It is fairly stable now. To this date I have 216 registered users in the last 2 months, one user reported an installation related problem and I fixed it instantly, no other issues have been reported. The web site has release notes and release history. ZippyLock is well supported. I also try to educate users on password security. I have a very comprehensive FAQ page.
IS THE PROGRAM EASY TO USE? - Yes. Most users figure it out without help.
DOES IT COME WITH HELP FILES? - Yes.
WHAT FEATURES DO YOU LIKE OR NOT LIKE? - Security features are unprecedented, CAPTCHA defense wall, anti-key-logger, anti-clipboard-logger. I don't think other products can compete with its security features. It is extremely easy to use, Google-like search box, no tree controls, no groupings, easy management from system tray.
WHAT FEATURES WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE ADDED OR TAKEN AWAY OR CHANGED? - Auto strong password generation.

ZippyLock's password manager stores your credit card numbers, passwords, and similar private information, by locking them in a secure Triple-DES encrypted private file that only you can unlock. Then, when you need them - for example during Internet Banking - the program just lets you enter your passwords into forms automatically without requiring you to type. That's right.. With a few mouse clicks you just logon to Internet Banking. No need to remember passwords. No need to type them. And ZippyLock is absolutely FREE.
Note: Requires email registration and .NET Framework 2.0
Once again, MS Mole surfaces and speaks to our friend Bill. What evil lurks in the dark underground passages of Redmond? Only the Mole knows.
From Bill Allin:
Hi Clif,
MS Mole reports that the war over Vista certification continues.
Many publishers of freeware programs are doing the expected, upgrading their products to be compliant with Windows Vista without going through the costly process of receiving Microsoft certification. Microsoft is prepared for this. It wants its thousands of dollars for every program that runs on Vista and is prepared to take action against any software that doesn't have the "proper" certification.
When a non-certified program is installed on a Vista system, Microsoft doesn't care if the software actually works or not. What it cares about is whether the program has Vista certification (which is an income stream for MS). When next the Vista box is updated through Microsoft, the uncertified software will be disabled or deleted when the Vista update is installed.
While this will be an annoyance for most home users and small businesses (who can reinstall each freeware program between Vista updates), jaws have dropped among the large business community that will ultimately pay much higher prices for software with Vista certification. Veins are bulging in many corner offices.
Expect virtual machines to proliferate so that freeware programs that will run on a Vista computer using Linux may be hidden from Microsoft. Linux system crossovers that will run Windows programs are gaining popularity quickly.
Rumours have resurfaced in the European Union about breaking up Microsoft. Bill Gates is talking about doing just that, but on his own terms. Instead of having multiple companies each with its own administration and shareholders, Gates wants six Microsoft companies to operate "independently" with one umbrella controller.
Compared to governments that act slowly, the gods of Microsoft can act quickly to sidestep any major move to remove the power that the MS empire has over the modern world. (Who needs a war when you employ thousands of lawyers?)
As Clif Notes readers know well, there is a freeware program for almost every paid application on the market. What the world needs is a dark horse operating system to come through the middle of the pack to run freeware programs. Several are in development in Europe and Asia. The Vista war may morph into one between need and greed.
Cheers
Bill Allin

Gary at Internet Fixes continues to amaze me with hundreds and thousands of tips for your PC. Whatever your operating system, or how you use it, a visit to Gary's site will soon have you saying "So that's how you do this!".
Very good information for those not familiar with THE DARK SIDE.
Botnets – the dark side of the Internet
If your PC seems to have developed a mind of its own, and your Internet connection is often overloaded for no apparent reason, then you have probably caught a special type of Trojan. Inventive Malware programmers often control hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of computers with their software pests. These are known as Botnets and this article explains what exactly these are, what risks they present, and how you can protect yourself from them.
Thanks to everyone who commented on the articles last week. You gave me more ideas and some good advice. If you see comments on an article, you will be missing out if you don't click on them to take a look.

The Cybernet News website has lots of good information. One it the best sections there is the section on Firefox tips and tutorials. Even if you are an old pro using Firefox, you may still find something new you didn't know.
Some of you have told me that you have either tried out Ubuntu linux or are thinking about it. How would you like a free book that tells you all the details you need to know about installing and running it?
The website below actually hosts an online copy of the book "Ubuntu Unleashed". If you want to, you can pay $32 for a printed copy, but that would be silly wouldn't it?
Quote from the website
Ubuntu Unleashed aims to provide the best and latest information that intermediate to advanced Linux users need to know about installation, configuration, system administration, server operations, and security. Written by renowned open source authors, Paul and Andrew Hudson, it includes detailed information on hot topics in Ubuntu Linux, such as wireless networks, and programming in PHP, Perl and others.
You need a free 2.8 GB Gmail account to access many of the cool features at Google. After more than two years in beta testing Gmail is open to the public. Just go to http://gmail.com and sign up for an account.
I think Gmail works best in the awesome Firefox browser. It's free, easy to use, and it's way more secure than Internet Explorer. My favorite thing to do is to customize Firefox so that it does much more than IE ever could. You can select new button controls for your toolbars, install extensions to add new features, or change the look of your browser with themes - the way Firefox looks and works is under your control.
